Sanctions imposed by, amongst others, the United Nations, the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the United States Department of the Treasury, the UK Department for International Trade and the Office for Financial Sanctions Implementation (OFSI), as well as the European Union are a powerful tool used in an effort to influence the behaviour of regimes and individuals whose conduct is deemed politically unacceptable.
Financial sanctions can prohibit the direct or indirect provision of economic benefit to a host of entities, in certain cases regardless of the actual location of either the provider or the beneficiary. Trade sanctions similarly regulate the direct or indirect supply of goods or services, including technical assistance and/or brokering.
David Hayes Export Controls has extensive experience in providing practical advice to both companies and individuals impacted by these controls and has assisted both UK/EU companies and expatriate individuals in this area.
